Daily Market Overview

To do every morning to prepare for the day:

  • Look at Open positions. Know if any need to be tended today
  • Look at any trades I am watching to open
  • Plan for the day from what I see:
    •  Positions?
    • ORB?

  • Focus on what you can control!
    • Entry
    • Stop
    • Risk

  • Keep watch during the day for developing setups
  • 1600hrs: Do Post-game report
    • What went well
    • What didn't go well
    • Did I follow the plan?
      • If not, why not?
  • Before entering any position:
    • Am I rushing to get in?
      • Buy the pullback or the breakout according to the strategy
    • Am I going with the overall trend for the timeframe I am trading?
    • Have I checked the current ATR?
    • What timeframe are you trading?
      • Type of Stops you will use?
      • Targets applicable to timeframe?
  • After getting into a position:
    • Ensure stop and target are set to GTC orders

Announcements:

  • 0830 - Jobless claims
  • 0830 - Productivity & Costs
  • 1600 - Fed speaker
  • 1630 - Fed Balance Sheet
  • 1800 - Fed speaker
Plan:
  • Bond futures are decidedly bearish.
    • Let ZN position work. Note that stop is at BE.
  • Look at ORB trade but note that there are big numbers at 0830hrs. Would be on short side only.
  • Look at Canadian Futures market.
  • Listen to some trading videos.
  • Review market conditions periodically.

Of course, I don't type this all out, but write it in my trading journal. After the first few times, it seems to take only 4-5 minutes, and sets me up for the day.

Hope this helps.
